Ashburton Hotel

Named after Lord Ashburton who once owned much of this and the surrounding land. The Danescombe Valley (historically important for both the intensive production of early fruit and for mining) stretches uphill to the left of the photograph.

Also known as the Danescombe Hotel, this has had a chequered history, including involvement in a notorious divorce case of 1878 (see Trengrove entry on Newspaper Articles page).
